New Character Reveal: Dr. Ela Sadik

sadik_character_profile_screen.png

Meet Dr. Ela Sadik, a very special character. Dr. Sadik’s concept was created after SHINee Jonghyun’s passing back in December. It was our way of paying respect to his memory, with hopes of helping others by showing the importance of mental health care.

Dr. Sadik wants to put a stop to the mental damage that operatives have to endure. One day, she hopes to be able to completely reverse mental illness/damage from trauma.

Dr. Ela Sadik is also special in that she is a hijab-wearing, Muslim woman. Thinking about the discrimination they often face, Creative Director Ajané Celestin asked former TTEOTS artist Xxerru if she would be the face model for the character, as a Turkish Muslim woman herself.

Please look forward to the detailed art and concept notes in the To the Edge of the Sky artbook, which will begin being created once the main story is finished.

Dr. Sadik’s design was conceptualized by Ajané J.K. Celestin, acting in an Art Director and Character Designer role. Her notes on the design are as follows:

I was nervous about how to portray Dr. Sadik, because I am not well educated on Muslim culture. However, we spoke with her face model, Xxerru many times and I eventually spoke to many different Muslims through Twitter and learned about the dress of Muslim women. I learned that it varied a lot, but I wanted to portray it as conservatively as possible.

This design was quite a challenge due to the fact that futuristic clothing tends to be tight and loud - the opposite of conservative, and there was already a defined uniform for the staff. I kept looking for inspiration and eventually found the right design that I hope everyone will feel represents those values in a futuristic context.

Introducing TTEOTS' Six' New Look

Meet the third and final incarnation of Operative Six! This design was a part of our planned art revamp, funded by fans. The art revamp was created with a goal to better represent the characters in a post-cyberpunk world, now that we had the time and funding to do so. Please look forward to the detailed art and concept notes in the To the Edge of the Sky artbook, which will begin being created once the main story is finished.

Six's new design was conceptualized by Ajané J.K. Celestin, acting in an Art Director and Character Designer role. Her notes on Six's redesign are as follows:

To begin the redesign with Six, I spoke with Egle to find out what the most important aspects of being a Specter were. Getting in and out of places undetected was the largest focus, so I thought of something sleek, that wouldn’t catch on anything. Dominique and I worked to add other elements to make it cyberpunk, with Audia interpreting them further. The coat symbolizes Six’s role as a sub-leader in the group. I was surprised with the face Dias created for Six, but I felt it really symbolized him growing into his own character. I hope that fans would look at Six as a different incarnation of his inspiration J-hope, and as a unique character in his own right, and do the same with the other Phantom Alpha members.

Ephemeral - A Short Story Not Unlike BTS' Singularity?

This story was originally posted on our Patreon in February 2018. The reason I decided to release this one publicly now is because I read the lyrics to BTS' Singularity and thought there was an uncanny similarity and wanted to share it. I actually wrote it while listening to BTS' Crystal Snow on repeat.
