Art Reveal: Operative Zero

Meet the fourth and hopefully final incarnation of Operative Zero! His face is part of Operation Phoenix, and he retains his most recent body art, although the designs were changed slightly by Dominque Wittwer at our request. Please look forward to the detailed art and concept notes in the To the Edge of the Sky artbook, which will begin being created once the main story is finished.

Zero was conceptualized by Ajané J.K. Celestin, acting in an Art Director and Character Designer role. Her notes on Zero are as follows:

Zero’s outfit didn’t get a complete redesign because I felt it didn’t need one. It embodies the post-cyberpunk visual as I personally observe it to be well. However, his designs on his jacket and accessories did get some changes that are meaningful to his character, and I love them. Aside from that, Zero’s face was actually the most difficult for me and Nonconman to do of all of the art changes that have happened so far.

A completely different face model of a different ethnicity was chosen, but we felt it was still very difficult to change it greatly from the original art. We kept changing and tweaking different aspects of his face to produce an even more different result. After hours of back and forth work, I think that we were able to produce a character that greatly differs from the old art, while even more strongly exemplifying Zero as a character. I think he turned out beautifully, and I hope that, after all our efforts, people will be able to appreciate Zero as his own, unique character.
